The Path

Author Alexandria LaFaye suggests the image of the revolving door as an opening (albeit limited and time-restrained: Be ready for your moment!) into our subconscious, the well of our creativity. I would like to take a slightly different approach and suggest that a path opens when we become still enough. This blog introduces one path to creative thought.

It may raise your eyebrows. There is a certain irony in the idea that the word is born through silence, that the concept of silent space be addressed. But it exists as an experiential truth for many artists, of looping genres.

Acknowledging this, I also believe in the usefulness of writerly tricks. creative thought is witty and loves games, sometimes riddle becomes the way into good story. The way we guide our mind in practice from atmosphere to notebooks or routines, prepares our entrance. Our rational mind becomes a cooperative team with our creative mind. Here is the first exercise to encourage their cooperation. In the exercise the writer shrinks down the way they have learned to enter metaphorical thought. To being:

To begin the writer finds themselves at the first step, silence.

What is Silence? Silence is active. It is an active offering of space and time, free of worldly distraction (How our souls crave this!) Contrary to popular belief, it is an aggressive decision to empty. It is an act of vulnerability that insists on courage. To the novice, this may feel unsettling, to the practitioner, bliss.
